DNS Monitor Template
The DNS Monitor Template enables you to monitor DNS servers for both avaialabilty and DNS records for results. This template is typically used by network administrators to verify DNS records.

How to configure the DNS Monitor Template:
- From the Menu Bar, select File | New. The Create New Object View displays.
- From the Create New Object View, expand Templates | Network and Application Monitors then select DNS Monitor. The New Template Properties View displays.
- The Template Properties view contains 3 tabs.
The Options Tab
- Use the Server drop-down to select the DNS server you would like to monitor (e.g. Google's DNS server 8.8.8.8).
Note
Once selected, the server is automatically assigned to this template.
- Use the Question Type drop-down to select the type of DNS record to validate. For more information see: RFC 1025 3.2.2.
- Use the Question Class drop-down to select the DNS record class. For more information see: RFC 1025 3.2.3.
- Use the DNS record to test text box to specify the hostname to validate.
- Use the Expected record value text box to specify the expected value.
Note
To automatically populate the expected value, click the Resolve Value button.
- Click the Test button to verify the template is configured property and the monitor executes as expected.
- Finally, select the General Tab, then click the click the Auto-Generate Name button to auto-generate a name based on the configured settings.
