Hosts (Computers, Devices and Endpoints)
A host is defined as a unique IP or other addressable name. This is typically a Windows Server/Workstation, a Linux or other Unix server, a device (e.g. switch, router or firewall) or a host (e.g. www.CornerBowlSoftware.com or a Docker Engine API endpoint). The primary object Server Manager uses is hosts. Monitoring if facilitated through Template assignements and Reports are populated with host generated data
Once a host has been added to the Server Manager, it must be assigned to a Template. Upon being assigned to a Template, Server Manager immediately calculates and saves the next execution time. The Explorer View adds a monitor node under the assigned computer. Every minute at the top of the minute Server Manager checks to see if a monitor should be executed. If a monitor is scheduled to execute, Server Manager creates a new task. The task then executes the monitor, fires Actions, saves the results to the history database and finally calculates and saves the next execution time.
To add a Host:
- Select File | New. The Create New Object View displays.
- Select Computers, Devices and Endpoints. The Add Host view displays. Choose one of the following options:
- Use the Hostname text box to specify the hostname, IP address or endpoint then click OK
- Click the Browse Active Directory button. The Browse Active Directory view displays. Check the hosts to add then click OK.
- Click the Browse Network button. The Browse Network view displays. Check the hosts to add then click OK.
